Jon Sopel presents The Politics Show on BBC One, is one of the lead presenters on BBC News 24 and was voted Political Journalist of the Year in 2007 by the public affairs industry.
For the Politics Show, in recent months, Jon has interviewed all the leading figures in British politics and has presented from St Petersburg, Washington and Alabama for special editions of the programme.
As well as presenting during the peak early-evening weekday slot for News 24, he has anchored programmes for the channel from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and Sri Lanka following the Tsunami; he was in Rome for the death of the Pope and on the Israel/Lebanon border during the recent conflict there.
Jon is also a regular presenter on other BBC news programmes.
Before returning to work in London, Jon spent three-and-a-half years as BBC Paris Correspondent.
He was in northern Afghanistan in 2001, reporting on the fall of the Taleban from one of their last remaining strongholds, and covered the war in Iraq in early 2003.
Prior to his role as Paris Correspondent, Jon was News 24's Chief Political Correspondent.
Jon started his BBC career in local radio, working for BBC Radio Solent in Southampton.
Jon has also worked extensively in radio, reporting for and then presenting PM on BBC Radio 4 for many years.
Outside of the BBC he is an Ambassador for the Prince's Trust and a Trustee of the Citizenship Foundation.
